βAnyway, we returned that night from the party and I was quite freaked out being in a 50 room + castle with creaky floors, little light, statues and oil portraits from generations ago in long corridors with deer skulls mounted! Yes, you have to be brave to sleep in a castle in Austriaβ¦ I was sure I wouldnβt make it through the night but in the morning we really go to explore and while I didnβt even see half the space it was exactly like a museum that no one has access toβ¦ They are very private people and I feel so honored to be allowed to see this side of their life.β
βMy very favourite spot to cuddle up was a comfy velvet chair, directly next to the radiator with a cozy blanket and book. In the very bottom corner of the castle for what would have likely been the original kitchen (or rotisserie). I had to walk through the length of the winding rooms to reach it. It was quiet and private, I only ever saw another person once. This very bottom castle corner had the most perfect natural light through the windows. Plus the view of the town and high arched ceilings with a giant fireplace/stove and so, so much history.β
βI have to add that during my stay at Ruthin, I spent most the night gazing out my window at the clouds covering the full moon and wondering if I would catch a glimpse of the ghost of Lady Grey. Alas, she never appeared, but the ambiemce was right.β
