βTo be standing in Times Square for the first time felt like being in the centre of world. Seeing all the electronic billboards illuminating day and night, the busy intersection full of vehicles and people passing by, the skyscrapers that surround the entire city and hearing the different languages from the people nearby together with the sound of the cityβs life made me feel like being in the centre of everything.β
βI finally made it to Times Square and it was magical, not because of the countless bodies crowded into a small area, but because you can see where countless lives meet. Everyone's life at that very moment will have a memory of being there on that day, and at that very hour. I took a few pictures and a few videos, walked around into a few stores, and eventually sat on a concrete wall and decided to rest before heading back to my friend's job. I played my favorite playlist, inhaled the crowded and humid oxygen, and I felt my calves pulsating from walking so much.β
βWe spent the next six and a half hours standing in that pen, watching it fill up around us. There were people around us from numerous different countries, which I found very cool. Every so often they would come by and had out some SWAG: hats, scarves, balloons, candy. Also, every hour they would countdown to the hour, and the screen below the ball would say "X hours to go!", so we came to look forward to that.β
βNot only was I overcome by the feeling of togetherness in that moment, but I was also so in awe of where I stood and what I was doing. Like most of America, I have watched the New Year's Eve countdown from Times Square on TV for as long as I can remember. I have always wondered what it would be like to be there, but never in a million years would have guessed that I would someday actually do just that.β
