Find a dark spot away from city lights and use a stargazing app to identify constellations like Orion, Big Dipper, or Cassiopeia. Start with the brightest, most distinctive patterns and learn their stories from mythology. Once you know five constellations, the night sky transforms from random dots into familiar friends guiding your way.

βItβs during this period, sitting in my camp chair at my campsite, that I began to look up at the stars and question why I could only point to one constellation in the whole grand sky. I figured I had the time to invest so I began to use those quiet nights to familiarize myself with the stars and constellations. Thereβs really nothing quite like staring up at a vast, star-filled sky after a day of camping. Away from city lights, places like KOA campgrounds provide the perfect setting for a stargazing experience. Slowly, I started to recognize and learn basic constellations and the stories behind them. Itβs a fun party trick Iβve been able to take with me in the years that follow.β
