Going vegan challenges you to discover incredible plant-based foods while potentially improving your health and reducing your environmental impact. Start by veganizing your favorite dishes – cashew cream instead of dairy, jackfruit for pulled pork, or aquafaba for egg whites in baking. The learning curve involves reading labels carefully and finding new protein sources, but many people report increased energy and discovering cuisines they never tried before.

I’ve been trying to go vegan for a long time and it’s hard. I have trouble finding foods that are satisfying and tasty after years of relying on animal products for certain flavors and textures, as well as convenience. I also struggle with impulsivity in my food choices. I’m NOT saying it’s ok to eat animal products. It’s MY responsibility and the responsibility of anyone who finds it difficult to put in the effort to find what works for them and stick to it. I know it gets easier with time. I’m currently 4 days into my 4th or 5th attempt and I’m trying lots of new recipes this time and aim to learn more about the horrors of animal farming to sustain my motivation.

Later that evening, four of my friends wanted to grab dinner at a hot pot place near our apartment building. I was a little worried about trying to eat vegan at a restaurant, but ultimately I did not want to let going vegan interfere with my social life. Good news- it was super easy to order! They had a vegetable/tofu option that came with rice noodles, so I ordered that. Some of the vegetables may have touched the chicken broth, but hey, for day 3 of veganism that wasn’t too bad.

I am nearly 7lb lighter (still enjoying my glasses of wine – that may have to be another story, but for now lets take baby steps) – My pain level in my joints has gone from say 7/10 to 2/10 and most amazing of all is I have not suffered from one single night-time hot flush in the past few weeks, and thats after having them for months and months and being kept awake every night because of them.
