“Today, after waiting all week, I took the afternoon off to finally go to the driving range by my place. I don’t have my own clubs so I rented some from the range. I grab my basket of balls, find a booth, and set up. Mistake #1: I fucking grab 2 lefty clubs, Mistake #2: I grab 160 balls instead of the usual 80 I saw people grab, Mistake #3: I over dressed not realizing I didn’t l need to wear a polo. I use the one club that wasn’t lefty to practice and I couldn’t hit a single ball into the air let alone swing properly. I switched the lefty clubs for righty and the same thing, no proper swings. It was an awful experience. I had NO CONFIDENCE in my swing.”
“In the past I’ve had some great visits to the driving range where I’ve discovered monumental things about the basics of golf. I have re-understood the grip, mastered the one-piece takeaway, stopped coming over the top, visualised the path of the clubhead while swinging with my eyes closed, stopped taking it away inside, begun waiting for the hit, tried lifting the left heel and squatting like Sam Snead, I’ve shortened my swing, lengthened my swing, kept it somewhere in the middle… All these things, I have done. And for a short spell at least, some shorter spells than others, all these things have helped me play a bit better.”
