Visit a public house in Ireland

“While based in a small, two-pub town in County Kildare, I traveled the countryside by day and spent nearly every night at the cozy local pub down the road from my cottage. My first night there, I met a man named Pat. He was 68 years old at the time, and I was 21. Over the following two weeks Pat and I spent our nights chatting away over seemingly endless pints of Guinness. In his younger days he was a Premier League football coach and he shared countless tales with me. He gave me sage advice which led me through a transitional period in my young life. He taught me how to drink Guinness (in three gulps, but you order your next pint after the second gulp).”

“Right after checking into my hostel I stepped into a Pub next door and got the greatest welcome ever. A group of maybe 7 Irish men all just screamed, "Heeeeey, where you from laddie?" Told them I was from Las Vegas and they all shouted, "Oooooh, Vegas, yeeeah!" Hahaha. Then the oldest one in the group asked me if I had Guinness in Ireland yet. I told him, no, and he proceeded to buy my first pint of Guinness! It was awesome”

“We made a concerted effort to not be american assholes and respect your culture, and we could tell that was appreciated. That being said, my absolute favorite pub conversation I had with a local was punctuated by him saying “Welcome to Ireland, dickhead!” as he clapped me on the back. I sincerely felt welcome, and the delivery was great craic!”
