โI wrote my first letter to myself back in December of 2013, and received it June of 2015. Honestly I had forgotten all about it. Receiving and reading that letter was more emotional than you can imagine. Seeing my shaky handwriting from back in that dark time gave me goosebumps. I stopped breathing for a few seconds, and then slowly opened it like it was a time bomb. I cried.โ
โIt was winter, and it had been snowing. We had trekked across the Wellington High Plains and were now perched along the ridge at the top of Mount Spion Kopje, huddled into our woolly jumpers and breathing in the crisp, cold air. [...] We would spread out along a track or at the top of a mountain, leaning back against our packs, finding quiet and solitude, and pouring out our thoughts onto the paper. Then, a few months later, there was that little jolt of surprise when your letter showed up in your mailbox. Reading them was just as meaningful as writing them.โ
