โThe instructor announced that he'd be walking around the room giving people "light massages" and to put one hand out of the hammock if we'd prefer not to have the massage. I was glad to have had the warning, because otherwise the gentle fluttery feeling would have likely freaked me out in a major way. But by that point I was so relaxed that I welcomed a little more (albeit weird) relaxation. According to the instructor, some people are able to take quick micro naps during this cocooning period, but ever-challenged sleeper that I am, I never made it anywhere close to conking out. I did, however, feel cozy and calm and way less stressed.โ
โOur instructor advised us to find a comfortable position, then become as still as possible, and revel in the weightlessness. Though cocooning is obviously meant to reference a caterpillar-to-butterfly transformation, I felt more like a human taco. An extremely relaxed, blissed-out human taco. (Yes, it was just as delightful as it sounds.)โ
โAfter the class, I felt...well, really freakin' great. The headache I'd had for most of the day had subsided; the neck tension I usually carry with me had waned. I was simultaneously relaxed and invigorated, and I found myself pondering whether I could install a cocooning hammock in my apartment without risking forfeiture of my security deposit. To sum it up, I was hooked.โ
