โ€œBeth also helped me with my desire to learn to climb a rope, as she took me to an Aerial Arts place where she used to go, where I learned the proper form for climbing a rope while using your feet and lower body strength as well. Beth and I did another Spartan Race in May 2017. It was a muddy course. The rope obstacle was at the end. I had trained for months. I got up about halfway, but then the mud on my shoes and on the rope was leading me to slip, and I got nervous. While I had practiced on other ropes, the Spartan rope was thinner and more slippery than my practice ropes, and I did not yet have the confidence to make it to the top. So, I gave up this time. But I knew it wasnโ€™t over.โ€

โ€œTook a conditioning class in high school one year. We had to climb those ropes against the stopwatch. After a while many of us got strong enough to get up it the fast way, all arms no feet. It felt badass but I still have visions of being at the top looking down at that worthless pad holding on with just my hands.โ€

โ€œMy first day of 7th grade at a new school, PE teacher says 'climb the rope.' We go alphabetical and surprise surprise, I'm first. I had never climbed a rope. Aside from being terrifying, I had zero idea how to do it. I jumped up, grabbed the rope, hung there for a few seconds and was like 'yeah that's not happening.' He said "DO IT." I said "can you show me how?" He told me to get off the rope and made the next guy up do it. Who did it easily, and then I saw how to do it, and I was like "oh I can do that." Teacher said "you already failed.โ€
