Dive between the North American and European tectonic plates in water so clear you can see over 100 meters. The continental rift creates a unique underwater landscape of dramatic fissures and floating sensation. Water temperature stays around 2°C year-round, making dry suits essential but the visibility absolutely magical.

“After wiggling into our drysuits--that stuff is uncomfortable as sh*t--we hobbled our way to the starting point of the dive. As we were there very early, we were all alone in the water, which added a certain degree of eeriness. The water was so clear, it was so quiet, and the fact that you were swimming between the tectonic plates of America and Europe, literally a place where worlds collide, made the whole experience unforgettable.”
“About the subjectiveness of the Silfra dive... You're not going to see coral or interesting fish. The clear water is as impressively clear as they say, but on par with the cenotes in Mexico (which I've done a lot). So I can see why some people may call it an Instagram dive, but personally I really connected with the experience, where I was, and what I was doing. It was very special in that sense.”
“If your goal is to see how clear the water is and experience it firsthand, I feel like you'd get the same level of enjoyment by simply snorkeling. Diving added a three-dimensional aspect of Silfra that didn't do anything for me. It was cool to see the clear water and to take the "touch the plates" photo, but that all happens in the first 5 minutes of diving. After that it was kinda boring.”
