Visit a geothermal spring in Iceland

Iceland's geothermal springs offer a surreal experience of bathing in naturally heated mineral-rich waters while surrounded by dramatic landscapes. The Blue Lagoon is famous but crowded - consider lesser-known spots like Seljavallalaug or natural hot springs along the Ring Road. The contrast of hot water against cold air, especially with Northern Lights overhead, is unforgettable.

β€œThere are a couple spots where you can see and feel the water seawater bubbling up in the pool. [...] The water spills over the edge before dropping down into the bay. No lie, it was windy enough that occasionally the water was coming back into the pool! [...] After an hour of soaking in the pool it was time to get on the road. No lie, the twenty feet to the door from the pool was daunting. Eric had already gone in and I was enjoying my last few moments…………and drumming up the courage to get out of the water.”

β€œHvammsvik Hot Springs is located also on the ocean but about a 40 minute drive from Reykjavik. There are waterfalls nearby and the drive here is stunning! You are able to cold plunge in the ocean while hot spring soaking here! I jumped in a couple times and wow it felt amazing! It is just a short walk away, and there are wooden steps leading down so your feet won’t get sore from the rocks! [...] This is my favorite because the springs are super natural feeling, there are plenty of different ones of different temperatures, and the ocean being right there is just amazing! the views are incredible of the mountains as well.”

β€œThere were hardly any other people there when we arrived and we spent a good hour soaking in the outdoor, warm natural spring, ringed with basalt columns with the green mountains as a backdrop. Idyllic. The only thing that broke this idyllic feeling was seeing Ian drink the water. We asked him why he was doing this and he replied β€œto prove I didn’t pee in it”. An Austrian lady in our pool thought this was hilarious.”
