Clothing donations extend the life of garments while helping those in need dress for success. Focus on professional attire for job interview programs or warm winter clothes for homeless shelters. Clean, gently-used items make the biggest impact – one person's closet cleanout becomes another's confidence boost.

I consulted a friend who advised me to hold each item individually and react to how it felt in my hands and then I would know if I was truly ready. This is what I did, saying farewell to each item of never-worn clothing as I moved it from a bin into a box. I spent an hour unfolding and refolding, kissing goodbye to little baby jeggings and glittery tops. I turned over each item in my hands with a peace that I have been waiting to feel. There was a definitive healing in that sadness.

I finally got rid of a bunch of clothing this morning that has been sitting in a container in my room for the last four or five months waiting for someday when I could sort through it and maybe put it up for sale and maybe pass it onto a good home. It just wasn't going to happen. So this morning, I bagged it up and dropped some perfectly okay clothes (nothing junky) into a clothing donation bin. Yet I still feel like shit.

The sequins rubbed against my arms as I danced, leaving scratches and a rash. I didn’t want to hide the dress under a coat, but eventually, I was too cold to function and put one on, though I took it off for any photos. Yeah, this dress made me THAT person at a party.
