food-and-drink

Experience the legendary green fairy that inspired artists and writers for centuries. Try it the traditional way with sugar cube and cold water drip, or find a quality bar that serves it properly. The ritual is as important as the drink itself - absinthe is about the ceremony and mystique as much as the taste.

โ€œMy experienceโ€”obviously purely anecdotalโ€”was, in the one time I drank it, that I felt incredibly giddy a few minutes after a glass and couldnโ€™t stop giggling. It felt like the first time I had ever gotten tipsy or first time I smoked pot. I was never able to replicate those super-positive giggly feelings with any other alcoholโ€ฆ just that glass of absinthe (and my first ever beer haha). Who knows why; Iโ€™m sure it could be argued that it was in my head because I thought absinthe was supposed to be extra-special... but all I know was I felt quite jolly and like a young teenager again.โ€

โ€œi've noticed it multiple times, including first few times i drank good stuff [...] for me it's like a subtle, it seems like a visual thing. like everything *seems* to be a bit more vivid or have more clarity or something. but it's really not either of those. it doesn't *really* make colors pop more, but it *seems* like it kind of does. it doesn't bring anything into focus more, but it *feels* like it does. it's really weird, and it's *kind of* cool, but in the end, it's almost completely intangible. it's almost indescribable. and it's like it's so subtle and fleeting (seems to go away after a few minutes, maybe 5-10), that in the end i've decided it's barely worth thinking about.โ€
