Sip tequila the authentic Mexican way - neat, at room temperature, with a slice of lime and sal de gusano (worm salt). Skip the tourist shots and try premium brands like Herradura or Casa Noble to understand why this spirit is revered in its homeland.

“Just got back from a Mexico cruise from LA to Ensenada. I had a tour to the blowhole (La Bufadora) and we stopped for a tequila tasting. The sales pitch was very well rehearsed and put together, but when I tasted the product (I am a tequila and mezcal fan), I knew something was way off. And the staff was asking for around $90 for a blanco (clear) tequila and upwards of $350 for a "12-year aged" spirit. The taste was not like tequila (too light and weird flavor notes, including the blanco). I re-tasted the unaged blanco spirit and it just reinforced my suspicions.”
