Christmas pudding is Britain's dense, boozy holiday tradition – a dark cake packed with dried fruits, spices, and often a generous splash of brandy that's been aging since summer. The ritual includes making a wish while stirring, hiding silver coins inside for luck, and dramatically setting it aflame when served. Whether homemade or store-bought, eating this rich dessert on Christmas Day connects you to centuries of British holiday tradition.

Remember one christmas my son had just turned one and a family member had taken everyone out for Christmas dinner - she asked if she could feed the baby her custard from her christmas pudding - couldn't see an issue with it (hadn't really looked at that option on the menu as I don't like christmas pud), he ate the majority of the custard before falling asleep with bright red cheeks - she then went to eat the rest of it herself - turns out it was custard flavoured brandy rather than the brandy flavoured custard Not my finest parenting moment
