Relax beside one of the world's most colorful geothermal pools, where orange and gold mineral deposits create stunning terraced edges around bubbling 165°F water. Located in Rotorua's geothermal wonderland, the Champagne Pool gets its name from the constant release of carbon dioxide bubbles that fizz like champagne. The vibrant colors and otherworldly landscape make you feel like you're on an alien planet.

“My favorite site in the entire park was the Champagne Pool because of its incredible orange and turquoise colors. Due to a high concentration of carbon dioxide in the pool, the water constantly bubbles like a glass of champagne! Unfortunately, the surface temperature stays at around 74°C / 165°F and it’s also highly acidic, so a swim is not possible. Because of the thick fog and wind, it was difficult to get a good shot with the colors and without my lens fogging up. I’d cover my lens with my scarf, then quickly take a shot when the wind blew the other direction.”
