Head to local farms or wild patches during berry season (usually June-August) for a sweet family adventure. Kids love the treasure hunt aspect of finding ripe berries, and you'll come home with fresh fruit for pies, jams, or just snacking. Many farms charge by the pound, making it affordable fun that teaches kids where food comes from.

People who tried this
βGillian next pulled βpick berriesβ and instead of being excited to go out to our local berry farm, the kids pouted and protested (desperately wanting to invite their friends to the berry patch) while I gathered up our gear. Thankfully, the berry farm is only 10 minutes from our house and their moods dramatically improved when I pulled into the farmβs parking lot (as did mine β I was awfully sour too). Fresh air, sun, a bouncy tractor ride to the field and bellies full of the best raspberries Iβve ever tasted saved the day.β
