βOn the retreats I attended we all mostly stayed off the Internet, consciously. Very freeing. We ate meals together and had long conversations, both silly and deep. We practiced asana in the mornings and evenings for about 1.5 hours each session. (Some sessions included pranayama and meditation.) In between was either free time or side trips in the area. [...] Being able to unplug from everyday life for that long gives space for the practices to really sink in. I found on the second retreat I was increasingly able to quiet the fluctuations in my mind and go deeper inwardβso much pratyahara. Even though much of the retreat was also quite social. On the first one, I spent some time with my teacher working through some things that arose in meditationβinvaluable.β
βI just came back from my first yoga retreat and I did not enjoy it at all, besides the yoga classes themself and the yummy food. I love yoga and meditation. It helps me grounding, coming back in my body, releasing emotions, and sometimes connecting with the other yogis. It is one of my main self care routines to come back to myself after a tough week listening and talking to clients. This retreat felt like group therapy. A lot of activities to force connection, sharing emotions, holding hands, opening up etc etc. As I observed other people really enjoying it, I felt very uncomfortable and it was not was I was looking for unfortunately.β
βJust got back from a week at a yoga retreat in Tulum Mexico. I wasnβt really sure what to expect beyond doing quite a bit of yoga. Obviously. it was a blast. Meditation on the beach each morning with three hours of yoga every day. Two 90 minute classes of differing yoga styles with great local teachers who taught me a lot. The leader of the retreat was a veritable angel. She radiated yoga goodness. And my international crew of fellow yogis were very cool. Iβm going back as soon as I can. I got lucky with the one I picked. And Mexico was a trip. Iβd never been. The retreat really deepened my practice and broadened my yogic horizons. I did my first handstand, for example.β
