Create new traditions by opening your home for a feast that brings together friends who might otherwise be alone during holidays. Plan the menu weeks ahead, ask guests to contribute dishes, and focus on creating a warm atmosphere rather than perfect execution - the memories matter more than the meal.

βAs the title says, I hosted Christmas this year with my partners family. We moved into our own house 7 months ago [...] we wanted to host this year as a thank you to everyone who hosted us previously. 6 adults and 7 kids. [...] I put so much effort and money into making sure there was a variety so everyone could eat. And in the end only 4 people ate, 2 of which were me and my partner. Me and my partner bickered and had small arguments leading up to Christmas because of how I wanted things set out. Stressing about the amount of food I needed for everyone. Made enough food to feed a small armyβ¦ turkey, chicken ham, 3 different types of salads including pasta and potato salad. Huge 80L Esky full of drinks that also no one touched. All that work, effort and money for pretty much nothing. Plus desserts.β
βIβm not hosting anymore since moving close to my family. But years ago I lost my grandma and then moved several states away from my family. Hosting Thanksgiving for my friends was very healing and it let me connect with that part of my grandmother that loved to cook and make that a special day for everyone.β
