“Personally, learning the alphabet in sign language was the easiest task. This is because it solely involved memorization, which I am already good at. I still fumble a bit with the harder letters, like K and Q, but not so much that one can't tell what I'm saying. The only real challenge that I had when learning the alphabet was patience. I easily got distracted and bored. I finally got it down when I practiced with a friend, so I incorporated that strategy into my learning down the road.”
“The last lesson for today was the sign language alphabet. Some letters were obvious and fairly easy to decipher. Others were more unusual and difficult to remember. For example, the letter “r” involves crossing the pointer and middle finger, which does not resemble the written letter. However, to sign the letter “z”, one simply moves the pointer finger in the shape of a written “z”. I truly enjoyed learning the alphabet and am looking forward to the next session, which will include colors and other basic vocabulary.”
