โWhen I started, I only practiced moves to get the body competency (balance/strength/coordination). I was in high school, so a 30 minute session at lunch, 1-2 hr session afterschool in the halls, then walk home and practice more on carpet while browsing the forums trying to learn (equivalent to today's reddit, I guess). I started with turtles and handstands, basics, which I thought were hard, but it was just that my technique and strength sucked, so then they got easier as I got better, and became my foundation. [...] Me and my friends were self-taught and had no dancing foundation. I was just doing moves for a year until I learned how to move to a beat. Think it was a Zeb Roc Skee song with a really obvious 2 and 4 snare that helped me realize where the beat was, and when to step out. I learned the basic toprock/footwork steps, but still didn't know how to DANCE, it'd be another 3 years before I learned how to actually dance, groove, and start making my own style.โ
