Tell a compelling true story through interviews, archival footage, and careful editing that brings important issues or fascinating people to light. Start with a subject you're passionate about and a clear angle, then plan your interviews and gathering of supporting materials. The most powerful documentaries often come from personal connections to the story being told.

βOne great example is at one point during production, we ran out of money. However, there was a storyline we really wanted to film. With no money, our only option to make it work β with consideration for equipment rentals β was to sleep in the back of our car, in a Walmart parking lot, for the first night of production. And thatβs exactly what I and one of the filmβs dedicated producers did.β
