โI decided to try doing a "gratitude list" because I just felt really down and depressed. I timed myself for fifteen minutes, certain that I wouldn't make it past maybe 5-10 things, and I ended up filling the entire page instead. I feel a lot better and I think I should make an effort to appreciate these things more.โ
โI always tell people to practice gratitude when theyโre annoyed. Well, Iโm annoyed at the moment so Iโm going to list 10 things that I am grateful for right now: 1. I am grateful to be sober. 2. I am grateful to be on a mini vacation at the moment, despite the people around me being annoying. 3. I am grateful to be heading home tomorrow. 4. I am grateful for my 5 beautiful furbabies and my several chickens and geese and the joy they bring me- I miss them. 5. I am grateful for the wonderful support network I have with my new AA family. 6. I am grateful to be living in a really nice home of my own. 7. I am grateful for the fact that I have been given so much time off work and am still being paid for it. 8. I am grateful that I donโt want drugs or alcohol to relieve this feeling of annoyance. 9. I am grateful for the small circle of close friends that I have who are always there for me when I need them. 10. I am grateful that what Iโm annoyed about is so trivial in comparison to the shit sandwich that others have to eat at the moment. And yes, this list has taken away a lot of the annoyance that I felt prior to making a list.โ
