β€œIt was a one man project that took approximately 6 months. I spent approximately 1-2 hours per day on it. I only had 1 project for the whole album. It was my first time making an album and I decided to have 1 project because I felt it’s going to be easier and faster to work with and will help me keep a more consistent sound. The plan was to have the same instruments across all songs - same kick, snare sound, same bass and guitar, synth, orchestra and various effects. I basically created my β€œband” that limited my choices, which helped by not being overloaded with options. In my case I liked having just 1 project because it helped me to think of the album as a whole. Any changes I did I always considered how is this going to affect the album and not just a separate song. [...] I started translating the recorded melodies (from my phone) to MIDI using a stock piano sound. I set the initial tempo of each song. Once all was translated and separated into a root note (bass) and melody, I took a stock drum plugin and played over the looping MIDI, experimenting to find different rhythms. That gave me 3 core pieces which are bass, melody and drums/percussion. I did some tempo adjustments when I felt the songs should be maybe a bit faster or slower. Here is where I experiment a lot by combining different parts together. [...] I then took the lyrics and started singing them on top of the created melodies and music, seeing what fits, adapting, removing, creating additional parts. I record the rough vocals as soon as I like something (sometimes even in the laptop mic so it’s faster). Quality here was not important but I wanted to have the vocal ideas so I can experiment more in the DAW and it’s also a way of memorising all vocals because if I’m hearing them often - it helps when I need to record them for real.”
