Shot put

“I approach the circle and try to think good thoughts. Remember to be quick and stay low. Before I know it, the shot put is released from my hands again. I feel that it is a good throw because I could hear my teammates clapping. The official measures the distance again and I make out of his voice that I threw 22' 51/2". This throw sure was better than the last one. Just think, two more feet and I'm in. I feel like I'm on a hot streak and I anxiously wait for my third and last chance to hit my goal.”

“At 11, I was in a village where a sports event for kids took place: shot put, 60m sprint, long jump, and a 900m distance, or something like that. I took part in the first three, landing in 1st place for them all, but I was not allowed to compete in the 4th one because "other kids need to win something too." I don't remember my numbers exactly. In shot put, I threw more than 9m. It was also my first time holding a sphere and throwing it, and I remember how shocked people were.”
