β€œThe very first open water dive SUCKED for me (confined waters was done in the sea as well but near shore),not because of panic or uneasiness in the water itself but because that rental crap gear on my back felt like an anchor and a plastic bag all at once. I felt restricted in my movements restricted in my breaths. It was so bad I distinctly recall thinking to myself... β€œman maybe this isn’t for you after all”. However I kept at it and during one of the final dives something happened. While swimming I turned on my back (I would not recommend this to new divers) and watched a cloud of fish gently swim above me as my bubbles gently rose and split...my breathing, the water in my hair, the light playing with the waves on the surface, that sense of weightlessness.... it all came together and something within me clicked.”

β€œAlthough I was able to surf quite nicely, I felt that I got very tired very quickly. To move forward towards the launch point, I had to fight very strong currents with my lower body, while the waves kept lifting me and pushing me back every few seconds (so it felt like three steps forward, two steps back). I was exhausted after just 10 minutes! When I got out of the water, my wetsuit was filled with water around the ankles and arms, and it was soaking wet and extremely heavy once I took it off.”

β€œSo I got my first go on a paddleboard because of that video shoot. And at the time I couldn’t even really swim, so I didn’t really have a very good relationship with the sea. But that day paddleboarding – when I got my first glide on that board, it was just the most visceral experience I’d ever had and I was hooked immediately.”
