Brave the "king of fruits" known for its incredibly strong odor but beloved creamy, custard-like flesh with complex sweet and savory flavors. Popular in Southeast Asia, durian's smell is so potent it's banned in many hotels and public transport. The taste is often described as a mix of almonds, cheese, and caramel – definitely an acquired taste worth experiencing once.

and i loved it! it was absolutely a mental process to get past the smell and the initial garlicky zing, but then i was surprised how quickly my brain tuned out the less pleasant notes and i mostly tasted jackfruit. then as i kept eating, it shifted into this delicious, nutty, cashew-almond custard type of flavour, so i tried pairing it with some almonds which was lovely. completely understand why durian is called the king of fruits

I'm a western guy from Adelaide South Australia, I love Durian, it's defined king of fruits without a doubt. First time I tried D24 in Bugis Singapore I was apprehensive and reserved after hearing what everybody says bad about it. It was ok but the negativity spoilt the experience. Second time I tried, Durian was in Jalon Alor, Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur, sat down at a, Durian stall, and decided to go again, this time I tried Musang King, and thought wow this isn't as bad as people say it is, and I finished it off and enjoyed it. The next time was in HMC Vietnam District 1 Ben Thanh markets, I sat in the market stall and devoured a more red orange coloured Durian fruit. Omg I was in heaven, so so good, soft creamy and left a big smile on my face

The journey from Chinatown to my kitchen went smoothly enough and I couldn’t detect any horribly offensive odour emanating from my grocery bag. And I even survived cutting it open and taking my first bite. Following that I was more confused than anything. Durian is certainly unlike any fruit I have ever tasted before, (I felt like I was somehow eating a cooked food, the texture was bizarre) but I’m not sure what all the hype is about. I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it either.
