Descend into Paris's underground empire of the dead, where six million skeletons are arranged in haunting artistic patterns along miles of tunnels. The walls of femurs and skulls create an otherworldly experience that's both beautiful and unsettling. Book tickets well in advance and dress warmly - the temperature stays at a constant 57°F year-round.

I took the Metro – Denfert-Rochereau Station is directly opposite the Catacombs, and I arrived just before 9am. This turned out to be a very good decision indeed. Already there was a line of around 100 people. By the time the gate opened at 10am, the queue was around 500 metres long. [...] Here, above ground, was Paris drenched in sun and warmth, life and vitality… Encountering the triviality of the gift shop, it felt like the normal order had been restored!

We just got done doing the catacombs and it was amazing. This was our second time visiting with our first visit being in 2012. The new lighting added to the experience and the audio guide was top notch. It autoplays as you walk through, so no having to fumbled around with it. There are “checkpoints” that trigger it to start so you don’t have to rush to keep up with the audio.
