Themed cake decorating combines baking skills with artistic vision - whether it's a galaxy cake with edible glitter stars or a garden cake with buttercream flowers. The challenge is in both achieving the right flavors and textures while executing your creative vision, and the results are almost too beautiful to eat.

โ€œThis project was my latest ADHD hyper-fixation, and it was such a delight! Before this, I had never: made sugar shells, piped icing flowers, used multi-tonal icing, stacked a multi-tiered cake, decorated a themed cake at all! Two layers of 6" rounds supported by one 9" round accompanied by 30 cupcakes for a special two-year-old's birthday. All scratch chocolate cake and vanilla american buttercream, handmade flowers, molded shells, crushed Golden Oreo sand, Pirouette cookie (I dunno, bamboo? Coconut tree trunks?) and a pair of Little People toys as cake toppers. I attempted a big "2" out of sugar as well, but that seems to be outside my skill set just now.โ€

โ€œMy step son turned 9 last week and has been telling me he wants a Star Wars themed cake since I can remember. In an effort to pull through on that promise, I tried to make a Darth Vader helmet. Turns out, that's a hard thing to do! Darth is made out of rice crispies and covered in marshmallow fondant. [...] Hyrum loved the cake and the first things that went were the marshmallow light sabers. Yummy!โ€
