Eat at a taverna in Greece

Dine at a traditional Greek taverna where families gather around shared plates of mezze, grilled fish, and local wine served in simple surroundings. The best tavernas are often unmarked, family-run establishments where the menu depends on the day's catch and seasonal ingredients. Look for places packed with locals and don't rush – the Greek approach to dining is about community and conversation.

I have had many amazing meals in greece, but the one I remember the most is This place, Tavernia drosia. So first of all, my wife and I were on our honeymoon way up in the mountains. We were driving back to our hotel from the beach and drove by this place. It has an amazing view and you go in there and it's just a nice old couple. We were the only ones in the restaurant. I told the lady what I wanted and she said that she was out of that but she would give me something good. She brought me the most amazing lamb cleftiko.

Then we took the ferry to Naxos and that was a completely different experience - we rented a car, toured the mountain villages, became regulars for the week at a local family restaurant, talked to legitimately anyone and everyone we could, practiced our Greek (and got laughed at), and enjoyed seeing community members and interacting with them more than once.
