Conquer your fears and try France's most iconic delicacy - snails cooked in garlic, parsley, and butter that's so delicious you'll forget what you're eating. The key is the herb butter, which transforms the tender snails into something sublime. Use the special tongs and tiny forks like a pro, and don't forget to soak up the remaining butter with crusty bread.

People who tried this

โ€œOut they came โ€“ looking and smelling absolutely delicious with garlic and parsley butter oozing out of their shells. The tools I was given to eat them with looked a touch medieval but they were the correct ones for the job. Although the tongs do not hold the escargots steady and allowed for movement and slippage. I dropped the slippery little sucker straight back onto the plate and in doing so the garlic, parsley butter, jumped out of the shell and all over me. Trรฉs, trรฉs embarrassing. To say the least. I could taste it on the edges of my mouth as it trickled down my face. My chest felt wet, my tops were damp. Oh yes. I had managed to throw the parsley butter all over myself. I wanted to pretend noone could see but how could they not. It was obvious. I wiped down my face. Picked up the tongs again and went in for a second go.โ€

โ€œThe texture I was expecting โ€“ a little chewy but not unpleasant-very like large winkles. Yet they did have a slight taste of mud to them. Iโ€™ve not eaten escargots before, so didnโ€™t really know if this was how they were meant to taste, but it was fun to try them and yes, I would order them again.โ€
