Choose something completely outside your comfort zone—if you're a runner, try rock climbing; if you lift weights, explore aerial yoga. The learning curve will be steep at first, but your body and mind will adapt in surprising ways. Most activities offer beginner classes where you can try before committing to expensive equipment.

I was shocked at how tough it was my first class at an actual studio...I saw the tiny 2 lb weights they had us use and laughed to myself..only to have to put the weights down 3 min into arms. The isolating movements really get you!

But, I wanted to do barre to help keep my muscles toned throughout weight loss and I can say for sure from my first class to my last class I definitely did get stronger, didn't need to make as many modifications during the poses, and was able to push through shaky legs!
