New exercise classes combine fitness with skill learning and social interaction, breaking workout monotony. Try something completely different from your usual routine - if you're a runner, try yoga; if you lift weights, try dance. Most studios offer beginner-friendly intro classes and provide necessary equipment.

โI was quite nervous before my first class. I don't work out consistently so I am not sure if I would be able to keep up. I have never done group fitness so really did not know what the vibe would be like and what to expect. And I have never NEVER lifted weight in my entire life! The staff and the coach have all be so friendly and helpful. They walked me through everything. I was struggling a lot during the floor exercise and could barely hold an 8 lb dumbbell. The coach came and explained the exercise to me and showed me how to modify it. My stat was kind crazy at the end (690 calorie burned, 15 orange and 26 red). They also explained the stat to me and helped me understand what to expect next.โ
โI just joined club Pilates and took my first official class on Saturday. I had taken the intro class and prior to moving to moving to my new state, I had done Lagree (a high intensity/low impact) form of Pilates for over 10 years and even have my instructor certification. Iโm used to being on a megaformer so I appreciated the free intro to get familiar with the reformer, although I guess it wasnโt as in depth as it needed to be. [...] Finally I was like โthis is my first class can you help me get it down? She begrudgingly walked over [...] but I was so pissed. I will obviously never take her as an instructor again but I wonder if this is the vibe at club Pilates.โ
โExercise classes seemed like a less awkward version of a meet-up group, so I picked one of the studios nearest to my apartmentโan indoor cycling oneโand signed up for a class. Whether it was the dramatic lighting, inspirational mottos, or synced-up choreography that made me feel like a Rockette, for the first time since I played soccer as a kid I was doing exercise that didnโt feel like a chore. This was actually fun.โ
