I just came back from trying motocross at a nearby track with a friend. First time on a dirt bike (rentals, 230cc) for both of us.. I knew it would be physically demanding and all but I didn't think I'd have to wrestle the bike non-stop. TIL that while road bikes want to stay upright, dirt bikes just want to slip and fall. After just a few laps I started to feel that I couldn't hold the bike as tight and the last lap before I took a break was so scary: I could barely hold the bike in the corners and some people who were passing me intentionally sprayed dirt in my face out of frustration because I was going too slow.

Riding a motocrosser is completely different to riding a road bike: you have to sit as far forward on the seat as possible for starters. Then the rest is I guess just getting used to a different bike. [...] I was initially nervous about the jumping a bike part but it was a doddle – providing you are expecting it! Just carry lots of pace up to the peak, roll off the throttle so it doesn’t bounce on the limiter whilst the back wheel is in the air, and control the bike in the air with your weight. [...] It was a great day, learning how the bike moves underneath me through the corners and how to control the throttle when the front wheel comes up in the air.

My mate mentions there’s a motocross track like 30 mins from where we live and they have rental bikes and gear. We’ve only been 3 times but here’s a video he sent me from our first time riding. I know it was my first time ever riding a motorbike but as soon as we got on that track I couldn’t help it. I had an itch I just couldn’t scratch. I just wanted to go as fast as I could all the time and get as much air as possible
