I remember my first time on the badminton court. To be honest, I felt awkward. I wasn’t used to running around like that, and my body wasn’t in the best shape. At first, I could barely keep up, and I was gasping for air after just a few minutes. But there was something about the game that kept me going. It wasn’t just about hitting the shuttlecock back and forth — it was fast, and it required a lot of focus. I had to think on my feet, move quickly, and react in an instant. It was challenging but in a good way. By the end of that first match, I felt completely different. My body was tired, but my mind was clear. For the first time in ages, I hadn’t been thinking about work, deadlines, or all the stress in my life. I was just focused on the game.

If someone had told me I’d still be playing by day five, I’d have told them they were delusional. But that’s what happened! [...] My top personal memory comes from when we were 2 games to 1 up, and about 9-7 in points, and our opponents had been coming back strongly. One of the Austrians hit a good smash, just off centre. I must have been about 2 metres from the table. Somehow I got a bat to ball, above my head. The ball went high and landed right on the corner of the table. We eventually won the point. One more and it was all over – we’d won the competition!

In the beginning, it was pure chaos. My serves either didn’t clear the net, went out of bounds, or even flew into the next court on bad days. Even when I managed to serve correctly, the shuttlecock would immediately get smashed back because I served too high, it was essentially free points for the opposing team since I always couldn’t react in time (my reaction speed is terrible as well).
