Indulge in this Cantonese tradition of small plates served with tea, featuring everything from dumplings and buns to rice rolls and pastries. The social aspect is as important as the food itself – go with friends and share multiple dishes while sipping tea. Look for authentic tea houses or restaurants that serve dim sum from rolling carts for the full experience.

“As we walked down Broadway, we passed bustling shops, bakeries and fish vendors gearing up for the Chinese New Year. Just like the shops, the restaurants were booming too. I was astounded when I walked into the ‘Golden Unicorn’ in Chinatown in NYC. The place was packed. I along with my two adventuresome foodie friends were seated at a table with a very cute family of three also partaking in the Dim Sum challenge. The challenge being— let’s see just how much you can eat and what you will dare to pick off the trolley!”
“I went with family and friends to Empress for lunch. This was my first ever experience in a dim sum restaurant. I really enjoyed it and the food was phenomenal!! [...] Hard to say. The thing I really remember was the pork belly with the crunchy cracklin on it. I saw that on tv food shows, but now I understand.”
