Meet Lapland's gentle giants and learn about traditional Sami reindeer herding in the Arctic wilderness. Many farms offer sleigh rides through snow-covered forests, feeding opportunities, and insights into how reindeer have sustained Arctic peoples for millennia. The experience is especially magical during polar night when the aurora borealis might dance overhead.

β€œThe reindeer? Absolutely incredible. The farm owners manage three different herds across multiple farms, and the animals were clearly well cared for. They looked strong, healthy, and calm, and the entire area was tidy and spacious. We were given small portions of reindeer moss, their natural diet, to feed them by hand without interfering with their usual routines. It felt respectful and thoughtful which is something you don’t always get in animal experiences that prioritize tourist entertainment over animal welfare. One of the most unforgettable parts of our stay was helping with the morning feeding. We climbed onto a toboggan hooked up to a snowmobile while the reindeer chased behind us, eagerly waiting for us to toss out large portions of hay and grain on either side of us around the farms. It was chaotic, hilarious, and completely unlike anything we’ve ever done. And through it all, the owners were there to guide us. Not with a rehearsed script, but with real conversation about the animals, the land, and their way of life.”

β€œToday we visited one of these reindeer farms in Levi. I don’t think I had ever seen a reindeer up close before, and they’re much bigger than I expected. There were about eight reindeer, and they seemed like a family. You could clearly spot the alpha male, the female, and the younger calves. They were quite calm, but also a bit indifferent, barely moving from where they stood. We fed them some of the feed that was available, although the only one really interested was the female. Once she finished eating, she lay down and started nodding off almost immediately. Clearly exhausted!”
