Visit a sauna in Finland

Embrace the Finnish tradition of sweating it out in 80-90°C heat followed by a cold plunge or snow roll – it's social, meditative, and surprisingly addictive. Public saunas are everywhere, but remember the etiquette: sit on your towel, stay quiet, and don't be surprised if it's clothing-optional.

When I stepped inside, Everyone was sitting around chatting, laughing quietly. I noticed Katja and some of her friends were completely nude. At first, I was a bit taken aback, but I remembered that in Finland, nudity in the sauna is totally normal and not a big deal. I sat across from my mom and sister. My sister looked unsure, sitting stiffly, probably wondering if she’d missed some kind of warning label. My mom was doing her best to stay composed, though I could tell she was figuring it out too. After a while, Katja mentioned that it’s better to take off the towels so the skin can breathe properly. I hesitated but then thought, well, I’m here to experience it. So I followed along. Even my mom eventually loosened up and went along with the local custom, smiling a bit nervously at first. My sister held onto her towel for a while, then finally laughed and said, “Alright, when in Finland.” After that, it all just felt normal. Nobody cared who was covered or not we were all just sitting there, sweating, relaxed, and oddly peaceful.

First time Finland as a Babygirl, I honestly thought hii sauna ni kama those soft spa moments unaona Instagram. Soft lighting, calm vibes… kidogo aesthetic. Wueh, reality ilinikuta kwa mlango. The moment I stepped in, heat ilinikumbatia like Kanairo sun imeamua kuwa personal. Within seconds, jasho ilianza kutoka heavy. Not cute glow… full on “nimekuwa nikichoma choma Nairobi all afternoon” type of sweat. I’m just there like, “ehh, si this is too much?” Then I clock the people inside. Women are just there, relaxed, unbothered, like this is their natural habitat. Mimi ndio niko stiff, holding my towel like it’s giving me dignity. I didn’t even know where to look… ceiling, walls, anywhere but people. You sit down and try to act normal, but your body is like “sis, we are under attack.” Heat keeps building, jasho inaendelea, mpaka unaskia even your thoughts zina-sweat. Then someone pours water on the stones… that sharp ssshhhhhh sound. A wave of steam hits you and I swear I almost negotiated with my ancestors.
